Newspaper Crafts

Hello Again:

I have been busy these days making some cards for a swap on msr. I can't share them until my partner gets them. but I will share another project that I worked on. It takes some time to roll newspaper and create but it is worth it!
I used a tutorial on youtube by the user Gustamonton
The first one is a cupcake, all made with paper strips and the sprinkles and cherry are plastic beads
The second one is a turtle box,. It is more complicated to create but the results are great! I use mine to store  a small bottle of aromatic oil and a small candle for my oil burner.
This video is for the simple box.

I hope you like it and try one for yourself! See you later =)

Challenge #61 at MSR

This is my entry for challenge #61 at www.myscraproom.ning.com. A Father's Day banner with the following requirements:
"Your banner must have either the word DAD or FATHER on it (OR WHATEVER YOU CALL DAD IN YOUR LANGUAGE)
Your banner must have at least 6 pennants and they must at least be 5”wide and tall
You need to have something metal on your banner
You need to connect your pennants with anything except ribbon
You need to select 3 items from the list below to include on your banner (be creative)
Tools
Ties
Mustaches
Cars
Glasses
Shirts"
First, Cut a card stock square that measures 5"x5"
Mark on the base at 2.5", trace a triangle and cut.

Use border punchers or scissors to create a scalloped border
Ink the card stock to make it look old and rusty
Cut a square 4"x4" on patterned paper ( I used DCWV Heirloom). Mark at 2" and cut a triangle with the edge scissors
Crumble the paper to make it look grungy
Get some letters of your preference or create your own like I did. I used silver paint on them.
Now, the best part.. decorations!! =) This is a clock and owl that I cut from one of the papers and added a paper tie that I made. Then I draw glasses to make it look smarter ;)
The two cars are images from the internet.
 Embossed regular metal brads...
I wanted to connect the pennants with chain but the one that I had was to thick and I could not cut it the size that I needed. I used bakers twine to connect the pennants and to create two tassels, one for each side.
Painted the tassels with a mixture of alcohol, brown and silver paint.
Attached the pennants and metal keys on the tassels
I made some tools, with the same paper and paint of the letters, added a plane and a bird from the paper and some glasses on the letter A.
This is how it looks finished.

I hope you liked It. See you again!

A day like today...

Days like today I think about  how much I wish to have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument like the cello or piano, or have a nice voice to sing, to paint or dance, to convey my feelings in a graceful and inspiring manner.
I found something that, I am not that good at yet, but I hope to improve every day. I found paper crafting. Many ideas come to mind but rarely manage to tune my hands  with my mind and create that picture or object that I imagined. Other times, the materials I need are not accessible or they are too expensive for me. I usually try to recycle as much as I can, not to hurt both the environment and my pocket, but it is a big challenge.
Have you ever felt as I? Would you like to express your feelings in a more artistic way and you try but your body does not respond to your mind? Have you felt the frustration that is followed by the motivation and desire to keep trying?
My creations are not all perfect, but they are all a piece of me that I want to share with the world .Thank you so much for joining me on this journey of self-discovery.

Paper Beads

The best way to use the scraps, specially when you are on a road trip, is to prepare a kit to make paper beads. That is what I did when I took the Amtrak train all the way to Miami, FL. Now that I have my kit prepared, I can make a few beads whenever I want to craft but don't count with much time.
My kit consists of a plastic container filled with paper, mini scissors, small bottle of glue, and paper bead roller that I bought on Etsy. When I come come I put the beads on toothpicks and glaze all of them.

First, mark on the paper and cut triangles 12 inches long and 1/2 inch base. Usually I cut a bunch of paper and put it in the plastic container, until i am ready to make them.

Roll the strip tightly on the bead roller and put a small amount of glue on the last inch of paper. Usually Bead Rollers come with instructions and templates for different types of beads. The easier for me are the round bead and the cone bead.

Finally, place all of them on toothpicks inserted on foam board and apply a thin coat of Triple Thick glaze. I hope you get inspired and make some paper beads on your next long trip, while waiting for your laundry or even at the doctor's office. Believe me, it keeps you busy and less stressed.
See you again later =)

Handmade Paper Flowers

I've been busy these days, but i still found time for crafting =)
I made some paper flowers using recollections paper punches. It takes time to cut and shape all the petals but i think it's worth it. I love my cute paper flowers. I can make them in whatever solid color or patterned paper to match my project.

You can find them on my new Etsy store: RayofLightCreations.

Cereal Box Organizer

As you can see in previous posts, i am trying to use all my scraps. My goal is to organize my materials without having to spend too much money. I saw this idea on pinterest and wanted to give it a try.
My cereal box was a tall family size; i measured and cut it so it was 12 inches tall. then I painted it with acrylic paints and then added strips of scrap paper with modpoge . I used brown paint to cover the bottom part and the borders.

I will make a few more to store my scraps, printables and layout ideas. I hope you liked It. If you do, please subscribe and comment. See you again! =)

Happy Anniversary Last Minute Card

Our friends were celebrating their first wedding anniversary and invited us to have dinner. I was kind of "in a hurry" but so excited at the same time that i had to make a card! Luckily all my crafty mess was still out. I completed the card in record time (for me at least lol) and went to dinner to a place that I love, Aladdin's Eatery.

The food, decoration and friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect place to have dinner and the prices are not that bad. I had some Tabouli with Pita, Aladdin's Chicken Pitza, Mediterranean Beef Kafta and Pistachio Cake.. OMG that cake was huge and sooooo tasty!!I I wish I had more pics)

At the end of the night we had fun and they loved their card! It was simple and easy to make. I made it with some scraps from the Recollections Mosaic Memories Stack. The sentiment was from  American Crafts, Courtyard  ( I have to buy stamps for occasions like this) . I  embossed it with Recollections Metallic gold on card stock and popped it with ek success foam dots, added a strip of mesh bling and rounded the corners to give that special touch.

I hope you liked it! See you soon

Altered Foam Box

This is not my first, but my most recent project. Eventually I will post a collection of previous projects and ideas. My husband and I went on a date to the Amish Country in Indiana. The first stop was at a local shopping mall, Davis Mercantile and bought a few scrappy stuff. We walked around and had some dinner at the Das Dutchman Essenhaus Reataurant, they have the best home made pies ever! We had a strawberry-rhubarb pie. To close the evening we bought some wine from  a local winery, Fruit Hills Winery, I loved the "Noiret", "Two Shades of Red ", "Traminette" and "Make Me Blush" .
We came home with some leftover bread and I decided to alter the foam box:
First I painted the box with craftsmart acrylic paints

Then I covered the lid with scrap paper and modpoge
I inked and added some trim to the border, a handmade flower and a stickpin .

Now I have a place to store my hand made flowers =)
This was a fun way to use all my scraps and bits of ribbon. My next project will be a similar one, using the same scraps.
Hope you liked it! See you soon

Get To Know Me a Bit

The first post is the worst to write. Ive been thinking on what to write for a few days, but I finally decided to start with a few words about my life.

I am a puertorrican living in South Bend Indiana temporarily, until my husband finishes his PhD in Mathematics. I studied chemistry and came here with him when I finished. I always loved crafting and cooking, but recently I tried scrap booking and fell in love with it. I always try new things like card making, jewelry making and polymer clay food and charms.

I do all my crafting on the dining table and store my stuff on plastic containers. It is a bit uncomfortable for me, specially when I have friends coming for dinner and have to take my current project out of the table. Since this home is temporary, we don't want to spend too much money on furniture, because it will be hard to sell back or ship to PR. The things that I am buying are materials like inks and trimmers and stuff like that, using the 40% off coupons from Michael's. We don't have a Michael's or any craft store in PR and I try to get as much as I can before I leave (the "essentials" of course).

I will share here my creations and Ideas. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think of what I create. I want to get better at what I do and will appreciate all the feedback I get. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
